For me, this book really shined in parts and then felt dragged out in others. I enjoy Wendig's writing and loved his book, The Book of Accidents which was over 500 pages but didn't feel long, this one did. I believe I would have enjoyed this book more had it been skimmed down a bit. I was curious to see what they were doing now, how their world looked and what it was like to live in it.ĭid the book need to be this long? I don't think so. Readers will know the shepherds and their plight. This book takes place five years after the events of the first book. Their civilization is far from being a utopia.Īs with the first book, this was a highly imaginative and well thought out book. Ouray, Colorado was the destination, and it is there that they began setting up their civilization.
